Waffles are known in Europe and Sweden since the 17th century. Crêpes since the 13th century, originating in French Brittany.

Waffles are usually served with jam or berries and whipped cream, either as a main course or dessert. They can also be served with alternative accompaniments such as caviar, sour cream, chives, shrimps, horseradish butter and processed cheese/dessert cheese.
Crêpes are thin French-style pancakes. They can be served as a starter, main course and dessert.
Variations
  • Everyday waffle - a 'moderate' waffle containing eggs.
  • Frasvåffla - a crispy and crunchy waffle without eggs. However, store-bought crispy waffle mix may contain eggs.
  • Entré waffle - a mix between an everyday waffle and a crispy waffle.
  • Crêpes Suzette - a classic of French cuisine.
  • Galettes - served as a main course and are coarser crêpes.
  • Crêpes - like thin pancakes.
Swedish and Belgian waffles are the most common types. So a good waffle iron or crepe iron for your restaurant is needed to make those appetizing waffles or pancakes. Waffle irons/crepe irons for restaurant use have a sturdier construction, better materials and more technical features than irons for home use and should be able to produce a large amount of waffles or pancakes per day.
